Updated guidance is available from Michigan Department of Education - Office of Special Education on Understanding the Requirements of Prior Written Notice Guidance. Notice is given to the parent by a district to explain an action the district wants to take, or is refusing to take, with a student who has a disability or is suspected of having a disability. Notice provides parents with a clear explanation of the district’s reasoning to propose or refuse an activity.Regardless of who suggests a change, it is the district’s responsibility tomake a final decision and document the decision thoroughly in notice. Notice functions as an official record that documents the district’s proposed or refused actions, including the rationale. This new guidance includes a helpful chart to support documenting all of the required components.View the guidance at www.michigan.gov/mde/-/media/Project/Websites/mde/specialeducation/notice-consent/Req-PriorWritte... ...
