School Closure

If your child’s school will be closing or consolidated with another school, there are important steps to take to make the transition easier.

Why are schools being closed?

Under Public Acts  96 and 97 of 2013, The State of Michigan can force the closure of a school district if the district has significant budget deficits.  The Michigan Department of Education also maintains a list of schools with budget concerns that may face closure in the future.

What can I do if this is happening/has happened with my child’s school?

We’ve made available a checklist to help parents with this transition.  Need more help?  Contact us at info@michiganallianceforfamilies.org
